Feast Upon the Words of Christ Scripture Challenge.

It has been FOREVER since I have posted! Guess that is the life of a busy Young Womens President :) I hope it helps any of you but I wanted to post this little punch card (and a copy of the letter I am sending) to each of my girls for a December challenge. I am also going to have a Feast (ham dinner) in January and then have various girls bear testimony of the Book of Mormon to end the challenge!

To use the file, you SHOULD be able to just click on the full size file and then either right click and save it on your computer if you have a PC or drag it to your computer if you have a Mac.

Here is the letter that I wrote:
Dear

Merry Christmas! How is one of my favorite Young Women? :)

Ezra Taft Benson promises: “There is a power in the Book of Mormon which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book. You will find greater power to resist temptation. You will find the power to avoid deception. You will find the power to stay on the straight and narrow path... ” WHO WOULD NOT WANT TO PARTAKE IN THIS PROMISE!? It’s exciting, isn’t it!

Nephi also tell us to FEAST upon the words of Christ, for the words of Christ will tell us all things that we should do. Yeah! How exciting! Seems so simple, right!?

These promises are SO great, I want YOU to be able to have them. So....I am excited to tell you about a challenge I have for you! During this fun winter break, I would love you (and I) to help focus ourselves on Christ. To do this, I am challenging you to read your scriptures daily! Notice, I am not telling you how MUCH to read in the scriptures because I don’t want to put a number on what YOU feel you need to do to “feast”. I have made a little punch card for you. Just mark an “x” in each day that you read as a reminder that you have gotten it done.

If you take this challenge with me, you will not only personally benefit with the blessings of having the Book of Mormon in your daily life, but you will be able to enjoy a FEAST with me for our activity on Tuesday, January 3. On this day, I will be having you over for a special dinner where we can celebrate our fun challenge. PLEASE join me, I am excited to share this together.

I love you. I know this is a generic letter but I can PROMISE you that I love every single one of you. I THANK YOU for making such great choices and I admire the strength that you have...every single one of you.

I guess one thing that happens when you are the YW President, is you get SUPER busy!!! I have lots of fun things I SHOULD be posting but I have been so busy working and serving and being a MOM... blogging has gone to the wayside. I will try to keep up and then also work on some past posts! Today I did a lesson on service. I loved a handout that I found on this blog. It is so great to find other peoples' finds! I glued a lip gloss (shiny) with a glue dot on the left side. The girls LOVED it!!!

This image below is formatted to be a 4x6 image. You can right click on it and save it to your computer or you can drag it (on a mac) and put it in your desktop and then print it at Costco or some other affordable printer! :)

My Easter Lesson!

Tomorrow I need to teach the Easter Lesson and I was VERY excited to see this post on Sugardoodle.net. I give them all the credit for the content of the handouts, I basically copied much of what they had already. I changed them into 4x6 prints so that I could easily send the print job to costco. Then, I just tied them together with a ribbon to give to the girls. It is a little more expensive to print these, but I figured it was worth the "splurge" because Easter is such an important holiday! I am going to go over the points on each card. I printed 8x10 pictures of certain items to hang on the chalkboard (palm leaves, a stack of silver, etc.) just to make it more interesting for them to look at...

You can easily use these pictures by clicking on the actual picture and then right clicking and saving it to your computer. If you have a Mac, you would just click on the picture and then drag it to your desktop to take it!

After I go through the week before Christ's crucifxtion, I am going to show this video that I downloaded...

Lastly, I plan to end with pointing out to the girls that they now know what Christ has done for us, what will we do for him? Was it all for nothing? And then I am going to bear my testimony of Christ.

LDS YW Manual 3, Lesson 2.. Parable of the Pickle Handout

I prepared my lesson for tomorrow. I basically followed the lesson but then ended using the Parable of the Pickle. I used the concepts discussed in Elder Bednar's Talk. I got the general concept from this talk but twisted it just a bit to match the lesson a little better. For the Handout, I made it as a 5x7 size so that I could print 2 to a picture at Costco for $.39 each! I am going to attach these labels to a jar of pickles and use packing tape as the "laminate" over the top! I also included the single picture so you can format it however you would like if it helps. To use this file, click on the picture and then right click and save it to your computer (for a PC) for a Mac, just drag it to your desktop!
The digital papers used in this kit are from The Ettes at Pickleberry Pop and the kit is called the Good Life. LOVE THE ETTES designs!!!!

Parable of the Pickle:

We can use this analogy to understand the process of change we need to experience to become more like Christ.

Preparing and Cleansing: You have to take the stems off, scrub the pickles clean...repent and make yourself clean

Immersing and Saturating: It has to be immersed in salt brine: We can be immersed in the scriptures, we have to listen to church talks, read books, attend seminary, etc. If we don't immerse a "pickle" into these things, we will have a "pickle" that is only half done.

Purifying and Sealing: Cured cucumbers are packed into sterilized jars and heat processed in order to remove impurities and to seal the containers from external contaminants. The boiling-water-bath procedure enables the pickles to be both protected and preserved over a long period of time.... Go to the temple often, continually do what it takes to "seal" you from temptation.

If we do these things, we will be comfortable having Christ as our friend, we will have things in common to talk about and we will KNOW Christ better.

Hello everyone! I appreciate all the emails from people and I am happy to hear that many are getting some use from my handouts. Just a couple things. I am so happy to send you handouts via email. But, it should work for you from the blog. All you have to do is click on the image. It will open a bigger copy of the image on your screen. Then, you can (if you have a pc) right click on the image and do a "save as". If you have a Mac, you can just drag the picture to your desktop! I hope that helps!!!

Some Suggestions for working on Personal Progress:

1. Find some quiet time (Sunday is a great day)
Don't get overwhelmed (work on one goal at a time)

2. Talk to your parents for suggestions & support

3. Share with your YW leaders your concerns and your successes

4. Keep your Book "out" so it's just something your always working on

5. Use the Post-Its to always have your current goal in front of you

6. Don't just pick the "easiest" goal to get done quickly. Choose things that interest you, and will help better YOU as a person

Always remember what the actual purpose of doing Personal Progress is:
To help you to "Come unto Christ" (Moroni 10:32) and to more fully learn of your

Divine Nature.

First Dance Kit

1. Get ready for the dance. Paint your nails, wear a little lip gloss and don’t forget to brush your teeth!

2. Don't forget what the approved dress standards are when choosing your outfit. You don't want the embarrassment of being asked to go home and change. And you don't want the guy dancing with you to feel uncomfortable because of the questionable outfit that you somehow justified.

3. Go with a friend but don't be joined at the hip. No guy is going to interrupt the highly intense conversation that you seem to be having with your girlfriend every time he walks by you.

4. Never say "NO" to a guy who had the courage to walk over and ask you to dance in the first place. (a song lasts approximately 3 minutes, it's not THAT bad)

5. Know your standards (For the Strength of Youth)

6. Don't forget your dance card

Remember who you are and have fun!

1. Always take a cell phone

2. Know what kind of activity he has planned so you can dress accordingly.

3. Know your standards. Review “For the Strength of Youth” often. Tuck the wallet sized pamphlet in your wallet.

4. Know your curfew, let him know before the date begins.

I did the 12 days of Christmas for the girls this year. I printed these stories and then stuck them in envelopes numbered 1-12 for them to open each day. Here are 10 of the stories I used. I know if it after Christmas but maybe you could use this idea next year!

Calendar Idea

It seems like the girls always forgot things. So... I created a blog/newsletter for them. www.d5youngwomenrocks.blogspot.com

I also got them all acrylic frames from Walmart (they cost $1 each) and I am going to give them a little calendar each month. I guess you do have to be a little computer savvy. I just bought a digital calendar from here it was only $3.99. Instead of putting a picture in it's place, I typed the details of our activities. If digi overwhelms you, you could totally use this idea with a 4x6 hand written calendar. I just think it is good for the girls to have their rooms!

We missed you post cards!

Here is a post card that I made so that I could just take it to the girls who we missed at church on Sunday. I would take them their little handout or just write a note. In our Stake training, they mentioned we should contact our girls once a week so if they miss an activity and church, I would try to do a visit. If I miss them, this note is what I would leave. Plaques

We took the girls' pictures with a fairly neutral background (this is actually a concrete wall) and then printed these pictures in an 8x8 format. I used Persnickety Prints because it was only $.99 to do an 8x8 picture and they sent the order almost immediately! We then mod podged them onto wood. The girls made them and they turned out super cute! Here is my daughters! It has a big border because we actually used wood that was 7.25x7.25 so we had to cut some off the edges!-

Young Women Testimony Handout

Each month we do a joint lesson on fast Sunday. We finally fine tuned it to be about a 20 minute "talk" and then open up the time to the girls for testimonies. It's been awesome! I make them a handout for the lesson each month and this is the handout for Testimony worth this month. This was the first handout we made for them to put in their lunch box (below) as "spiritual food"

This is a handout I did with a mini lunch tin. I printed these on full sheets of paper stickers and put the "my testimony" on front, and the quote on the back. I told them they were lunch boxes and they can put their handouts in there throughout the year to help them "feed" their testimony.

This was also in the lunch box so they could write their own testimony.

I made this handout small so they could put them in their scriptures to review each fast sunday during Sacrament meeting.

Theme Blocks

I made these blocks for the 2011 theme for each girl. I painted them brown and then mod podged this document to the top of it. I almost think that I could have gotten away with not even painting them though! I am attaching the document now so that you can copy it if you would like. I will attach pictures of it on the blocks in the morning. They turned out really cute and you can just get the wood from home depot! Young Women Manual 2, Lesson 41 Optimism Handout and Lesson ideas

I made this handout in a 4x6 format so you can print it as a picture at the photo lab. Or, you can just use the 8.5x11 format and print it on your computer! I attached these to a box of Lemon heads for the girls. You could also attach it to a packet of lemonade or a can of lemonade! I hope you enjoy the handouts! (The cute little lemonade kit is CITRUS SPLASH by THE ETTES... love their stuff!)

For the lesson, I am going to use the lesson as it is formatted in the manual. I am adding a few things, I loved the talk by Elder Wirthlin which was referred to in the resource guide. It is Joseph B. Wirthlin, “Come What May, and Love It,” Ensign and Liahona, Nov. 2008, 26–28. So I will be using that. There is a video on you tube with a link to part of his talk. It is really good. But, I fell in love with this clip instead. It really inspired me and because I have Laurels, I thought it would help them to see that you can CHOSE how you react, you can CHOSE your attitude in times of trial!

This was a great lesson for me to be able to prepare. I have been in a bit of a slump (aren't we all at times!?) It is just another reason why I am so blessed to be in Young Womens! I get to prepare lessons that help me as much as I hope I am helping them!

Family Feud Activity

We did a joint activity with the Young Men tonight and it was FUN! We hooked our computer up to a projector and used a template like this one to make a Family Feud game, complete with sound effects! I think the kids thought it was fun! We used the questions found on Mormon Share HERE so it was super fun to have them be LDS based! We rigged just one answer...the temples. Since we have so many here in Utah, we added Draper to the survey. I think it was an overall success. But, mostly because I have an awesome presidency who helps make our activities fun!

YW in Excellence Thank you card

We had YW in Excellence this week and it was WONDERFUL! It was so fun to have everyone there. I will blog pictures and show you the AwEsOmE candy bar my leaders did. I can't believe how much work each one of them did! Here is a jpeg of the Thank you card I am going to attach to a little jar of candy for them. You could use it for your leaders if you wanted.... I left a little circle with lines so I could write a personal note on each one as well! The digi art is from Ettes and Company and I was going to put a real rhinestone on the center of the flowers!

Our Favorite Things...

Tonight we had an activity where each girl brought something that represented their favorite thing. They brought something they could give away. Each girl would show what they liked, say why they liked it and then drew a name and gave that item away. Each leader did one spiritual favorite thing and one favorite thing that they gave every girl. Here is the quote I used as my favorite thing... I just printed it as a picture. I think if you click on it you could save it and use it to!

"Let's Grow Together" LDS YW Value Flowers Handout

I made this basket of sucker flowers to give the girls on the first day that I was the YW President. I used the fun homemade suckers (of course, I bought them) and then cut the flowers from various papers and attached flower centers that had the values on them in the center. I put that green foam you use for floral arrangements to hold these all in place. I talked about how we are like flowers and how I am new, and that I can't wait for us to grow together! The girls seemed to love it!

Stand as a Witness UNO Cards Handouts

These UNO cards were at the party supply store and I just couldn't resist! They were so cute! I did a lesson on our theme so that maybe the girls would feel more when they recite it each week. I used these UNO cards as a handout. You can use UNO cards for ANY lesson though. You can say "UNO you are a daughter of God", "UNO to eat carrots daily", etc. etc. There is also an UNO candy bar you can use as well!

LDS Young Women Lesson #33 Handout..The sacred power of Procreation

I got the idea for this handout from Sugardoodle.net and then added my own "spin" to it! To make the frog, I just googled a picture of a frog to color and then printed 2 copies. I cut the whole body from one and the legs from the other and then paper pieced them together with green cardstock. For the eyes, I cut 2 white circles and used little black rhinestones in the center. I also outlined the whole thing with a black felt tip pen. Super cute! When I gave these to my Laurels, they laughed. I made the (not so funny) joke that I thought it should be more that you don't need to "pet" every frog to find a prince but thought their parents may find that an inappropriate handout! Hope someone can use this to make their lesson easier :)

My LDS Life...

Religion is a subject I have thought to shy away from. But, the fact of the matter is, it is a MAJOR part of who I am. I have tried to keep a personal blog and just have a hard time talking about all things personal when it comes to my life and my kids. So... here we are with an LDS blog. My motive here is simple. It is to SHARE my ideas with others who may benefit from some of my sleepless nights coming up with them!

I have been recently called to be Young Women's President. This calling came just 3 1/2 years after I decided to re-activate in the church after a 16 year break (a story I am sure I may share in the future). I hope to share with you my thoughts and ideas with this journey along with my files for things I have made and my handouts (I LOVE to make them!) My hope is that there may be other Young Women leaders who will find our ideas an easy thing to copy (making your life and nights of sleep much better!)
